NAIC

History

NAIC is an acronym for Nuestra Adorada (or Amable or Amante) Inmaculada Concepción, Spanish for Our Adorable (or Amiable or Loving) Immaculate Conception, which refers to the Patroness of the barrio at the time. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, whose feast the barrio celebrated (and the town continues to celebrate) on December 8.

When it comes to the origins of the name, NAIC has a few different tales to tell. One theory it is originated when the Spaniard asked a resident what the pig was doing. One resident replied, “na-igik” (crying sound of pigs), which later became NAIC. A second theory derived from the Spanish term “Ca- Naic.” meaning “neighboring place.” by referring to the now Maragondon as its mother town. Third theory, it is derived in the acronym Nuestra Adorada Immaculada Concepcion. The city’s name comes from the Spanish interpretation of the patron saint of the town, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception. Every year on the 8th of December, the townspeople celebrate their town fiesta in honor and reverence of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

Thousands of years ago, Naic was a constituent of the towering Mt. Taal. Naic was the volcano's western slope before its initial eruption, which caused the apex to fall to its current location.

In 1627 Maragondon was found by Jesuits encompassed all of Naic, Ternate, and Magallanes. In the year 1758, the Jesuits uncovered a community on the river’s western bank (now called Barangay Muzon) and turned it into a "sitio" with a visita still under Maragondon's control.

All of the towns in Cavite were Filipinized during the Philippine Revolution of 1896-1898, and because of that the name NAIC was changed into "Maguagi." In addition to that, in NAIC, five notable events happen in NAIC, which aided the country's independence from Spain. These are as follows:

1. The construction of the country’s first official flag, which held in place in Sulok, Naic, Cavite (now the Velemart);

2. The Naic Military Agreement was signed in Tejeros by Andres Bonifacio to demonstrate his authority as a leader of the Philippine revolutionary government against Emilio Aguinaldo's government (Casa Hacienda de Naic);The assigning of the first cabinet ministers among these are the Departments of Interior, Justice, Finance and Defence (Casa Hacienda de Naic);

3. On May 1897 in Timilan, Naic, Cavite, the Filipino revolutionaries claimed a decisive victory against the Spanish army at the Battle of Timilan;

4. Aguinaldo proclaimed the town of Naic to be his last line of defense during the Battle of Naic (Poblacion).

Naic is also the first town in the world to pass an ordinance prohibiting pigs from roaming the streets, which had been a long-standing issue in the country. Since other towns followed suit, it is considered one of Naic's greatest achievements.

Casa Hacienda de Naic was taken over by Filipino revolutionaries during the Philippine revolution.
