Tanza
History
Tanza was formerly known as Santa Cruz de Malabon. In 1770, it became a separate town and then became a municipality in 1910.
Tanza is originally a part of San francisco de Malabon called "Estancia" the word Estancia was derived from the Spanish word which means "Station".
The name Santa Cruz de Malabon was changed into Tanza by the virtue of Act No.2390 by Cavite Representative Florentino Joya (1912-1916).
Tanza is the place wherein Emilio Aguinaldo took his oath as the First President of the Revolutionary Government of the Philippines. And Tanza is also the hometown of Felipe G. Calderon, he is the one who drafted the first Philippine Constitution.
Food
The food in Tanza is heavily influenced by Spanish culture.
There are some unique Tanza specialties that you must try including Pipian or Chicken Kare-kare and the Tinumis.
Pipian is a similar dish to Kare-kare and the main ingredient is chicken instead of beef. The name Pipian comes from the Mexican sauce that made out of pumpkin seeds.
Tinumis is a similar dish to dinuguan but instead of vinegar its flavor is sampaloc.
It's made from pork that sauteed with garlic and onions and then before being brought to a boil it seasoned with fish sauce. The pig's blood is added once the meat is soft and tender. And then the last needed to add is the sampaloc and chillis.
Culture
Since Tanza is known for its many festivals there are most popular of it including Sapyaw festival and Lohitor festival.
Sapyaw festival is celebrated every 20th of August to honor Tanza's patron saint (St.Augustine) to commemorate the day that municipality earned its name. Various barangays join the dancing.
Lohitor Festival
Lohitor festival is held every 28th of February every year in honor the patron saint (St. Augustine) as well.
The word Lohitor derived from the word Lobo, Higante, and Toro. The highlight of this festival are street dancing performances, parade of bands and also the colorful activities that done during the event.
Notable people
Felipe Calderon was born on April 4, 1868 in Santa Cruz de Malabon that now is known as Tanza, Cavite. He is a lawyer, statesman, and also known as the "Father of Malolos Constitution". He was the one who drafted the first Philippine Constitution.
Calderon established two law universities including Liceo de Manila, it is the first law College in the Philippines, and also the Escuela de Derecho (School of Duties). He is taught in these institutions.
He died on July 6, 1908 at the age of 40.
Tourist Spot
Calle Real is one of Tanza's oldest houses, and it has became into one of Tanza's most beloved restaurant. The redtaurant set-up is a 1920's era house. Calle Real serves traditional Caviteño dishes like squid pancit or pancit choko.
Hardin ng Postema is located at Sitio Postema Sahud-Ulan, Tanza.
The entrance fee is cheap and the resort also offers no charge on any of their cottages, it surely affordable to the tourist who wants to visit this resort.
There are various pools to choose and at the back of the resort it has a huge unoccupied area filled with huge trees wherein you can relax.
